Credit
Cards in the UK
There are many different types of UK credit cards
such as Gold Cards, Platinum Cards, Charity Cards, Charge cards,
company cards and student credit cards. Banks and building Societies
in the UK issue the majority of credit cards.
Credit cards offer consumers more purchasing power
by making it simple to access funds through a short-term loan at
a reasonable
cost. However,
keeping oneself out of serious long-term debt – as a consequence
of overusing the easy purchase features of a credit card – takes
self-discipline and control over one’s buying impulses.
If a credit card is used responsibly, it can make
the card holder’s life easier by providing a convenient line
of credit for both unforeseen expenses and planned purchases within
the card holder’s normal budget. It’s worth taking advantage
of incentives like interest-free borrowing and the safety that credit
cards offer when purchasing items online or over the phone. And
it’s a safe and convenient way to pay for expenses when traveling
outside of the UK.
However it is all to easy to get into debt and it
is vital not to borrow too much on your credit card otherwise the
interest you pay can be excessive. Don't be tempted to get multiple
credit cards as before you know it your debts will rise and rise.
If you find yourself unable to control your spiraling debt then
get help. If you need financial help go to the Citizens Advice Bureau
who offer help to many people who find themselves in debt and their
help is without any vested interest.
Interest rates vary so its well worth shopping around
for the best deals on credit cards.
